  • The site coordinator provides a brief welcome and outline of the session

 

Post Survey

GIRLS AND MENTORS PAIR UP

GIRLS TAKE SURVEY

  • Mentor administers survey to girls via link below

  • Sample Mentor Script: Next we’d like you complete a short online survey.  I have pulled up the survey and you can complete it here.  Take your time to answer the questions. These should be your honest opinions. There are no wrong answers! When you get to the last question of the survey, I will provide you with a code to put in. Let me know when you get to that point.

    • Pull up the survey and pass over to mentee [CLICK FOR SURVEY LINK]

    • Last question of survey, tell your mentee their unique 5 digit code

      • Note: this will be provided to you by the site coordinator

 

Invention Prep & Presentation Practice

~20 min

INVENTION PREP

  • With your mentee, spend some time prepping the invention for the presentation

    • Test it out together and make sure it works

  • If you are having trouble, check out the troubleshooting guide

  • Make any last minute tweaks or updates

PRACTICE THE PRESENTATION

Review presentation questions together - mentors, you can prompt your mentees

1. Invention description

[STEM KIT]

  • What is your invention called?

  • What does your invention do?

  • Who is it for? How it can help make life better for someone this person?

  • Important features

[MUSIC KIT]

  • What is your invention called?

  • What sounds does it make?

  • Important features - i.e. levers, ramps, sensors

 

2. How does your invention work?

  • What Bits and materials were used?

  • Describe how it works

3. Reflect

  • Favorite part about building the invention - what are you most proud of

  • What was the trickiest?

  • What did you learn by building your invention?

PRESENTATIONS

  • Each girl will have about 5 minutes to demonstrate how her invention works

  • Mentors can help document the final presentation by taking photos

  • During the presentation, mentors can also help prompt mentees with questions

  • If time, girls and mentors can ask questions about the invention
